Karatedo was brought into Myanmar about 1950s by some Japanese military services who had to give combat training, such as Judo, Aikido and Bayonet-fighting to the armed forces in Myanmar.

Karatedo, Karate in short name, became very popular among the youngs in the late 1960s and over 30 karate clubs were set up in Yangon area alone in the early 1970s.

The seniors, self-promoted black-belt, became chief instructors of the respected karate clubs. These instructors learned karate from some veterans and study theirselves by karate text books, magazines, movies and 8mm & 16mm demostration films of Japan Karate Asso¬ciation-JKA were their references.

So, different knowledge made their understanding different and even a single technique interpreted differently among the clubs.
